21st World Futures Studies Federation World Conference will be held in Penang, Malaysia, as part of the 3rd Global Higher Education Forum (GHEF 2011) on 13-15 December 2011. The conference is a pioneering collaboration between the WFSF, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

The Futures Academy at DIT together with UCC’s Energy Policy and Modelling Research Group will host a seminar "Energy and Emissions in Ireland: Historical Analyses and Future Perspectives" on Friday, 8th April 2011.
On 28th and 30th September 2010, the members of The Futures Academy, Ela Krawczyk, Tadhg O'Mahony and Dorothy Stewart, participated in the Visioning Workshops organised as part of the Consensus Project.
A member of The Futures Academy has successfully brought through another PhD, the second to the Academy this year. Tadhg O’ Mahony has been a member of the Futures Academy for over five years and has been involved in numerous Academy projects. Tadhg’s research was on ‘Energy Carbon Emission Scenarios for Ireland’. This novel study used decomposition analysis to look at the historical change in carbon emissions from 1990 to 2007 at both the macro level and in the sectors, the first such study for Ireland.
On 7th May 2010 the Ministry of Social Action and Citizenry of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) has organised a conference “Building the Future: Observatori Catalá de Prospectiva en Serveis Socials”. The event was a part of the research activities undertaken by the Ministry over the last year, which involve bringing futures studies into the examination of social services in Catalonia.
We are very happy to announce that our PhD student Dorothy Stewart has successfully passed her viva!! We would like wholeheartedly congratulate Dorothy on her achievement. She has been a member of the Academy since its inception in 2003. Her work on the use of smart growth approaches in urban planning used futures methods and is a highly original contribution to the corpus of literature on Irish public policy. We wish Dorothy every success in the future!
An tSlí Ghlas : The Green Way
A new initiative to create a Green economic business corridor in the north Dublin area was presented yesterday to Taoiseach Brian Cowen.
An tSli Ghlas: the Green Way is a major collaborative idea pitched as creating a Green economic corridor linking Dublin airport to the centre of the city. This corridor is aimed at becoming the “silicon valley” of green businesses and CleanTech in Dublin.
The idea was developed by a panel of major stakeholders in the Dublin north and I underlined by the following key driving factors:
